Opening Saturday, 3 March 2012, 5 pm
“Two white donkeys dyed with black stripes delighted Palestinian kids at a small Gaza zoo who had never seen a zebra in the flesh…” (Reuters, 8 October 2009)
Guus Beumer, director of NAiM / Bureau Europa, and Malkit Shoshan, architect and author of the book ‘Atlas of the Conflict, Israel-Palestine’, cordially invite you to the opening of ‘ZOO, or the letter Z, just after Zionism’ on Saturday 3 March at 5 pm.
‘ZOO, or the letter Z, just after Zionism’, as part of a research on the relationship between architecture and conflict, consists of an installation, an archive and two books. The installation is a hybrid of a house, a cage, a UN shelter, a zoo… The archive consists of stories, anecdotes and statistics on a variety of terms concerning the zoo and the Gaza Strip, such as modernism, behavioral sink, proximities, donkeys, the exotic, classification, walls and paradise.
